There are times in life where 'live and let live' should rule our thoughts and there are those times when we should be galvanized
into action. The invasion of Kuwait by Iraq was one of those times when we had to be galvanized into action.
Fortunately, 'Bush 41' realized that the goal was to set a 'wrong' right, and he was galvanized into driving the invaders
out, then was done with it. He was smart enough not to continue the attack and try to topple Saddam.
Unfortunately, his son, 'Bush 43' did not learn from his father's sage actions. I was NOT for going into Iraq for the
purpose of toppling Sadaam. Bush 43 made a campaign commitment that he would not engage in 'nation building', but couldn't
resist the opportunity. There is only one major way a President can damage the country on his or her on, and that is going
to war! 'Bush 43' screwed up and did that - with the blessing of Congress, and left many US troops throughout the region.
But that decision is history, so what now? Did we learn anything? We'll see.
I hoped that we would not get involved any of the recent unrest in the area, but who knows what's coming next, since the
Biden administration has things in the region so screwed up. Biden removed the sanctions on Iraq sure the $8 Billion in sanctions
against them removed and the somewhere between $1.7 and $33 BILLION in CASH we gave them has funded the attacks on Isreal
by Hamas and Hezbollah! And, now Iran seems to be directly involved, what was the Biden Administration thinking!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hopefully Mr. Trump's Team will do much better, but the cash is gone forever!
So, now that we are pretty much wound down in Iraq, and that Bidens disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan was a total
embarrassment (with no one being held accountable!, we should be very, very careful before we again risk our men and women
for another country. We also must put the money saved to the debt, and it is not to be spent!
This region of our world has been in turmoil for many centuries. Certainly, it has changed since the creation of Israel,
but basically many peoples of this area of our world do not like each other or many others around the world, including the
United States of America.
Generally, Israel has proven to be an ally, as have a few others in the area. I don't believe that anything we do will
change these feelings greatly in the short term. However, to change those attitudes over the long term, we must be consistent
in our thoughts actions and deeds. And, as explained elsewhere on this site, sometimes less is more. So, our involvement
in this area should be restricted to a role of facilitator and nothing more. If however, like in the case of Iraq invading
Kuwait, we will come to the aid of our allies in any part of the world, including Israel, with appropriate force to defeat
any attack/invasion. And, now with the Hamas attack of Isreal on October 7, 2023, that the Biden administration weak policies
almost invited, peace will be very hard to come by. President Trump did make some great progress with the Abraham Accords
during his last term. Hopefully he can expand that to several other countries in the region during this term.
I do believe that the Palestinian people deserve to have an 'official' homeland, so I do support the creation of a side-by-side
two State solution, however, it is for the parties to decide how best to accomplish that end, and, with Hamas in charge of
Palestine, I believe that a true solution may be far faraway. This is an opportunity for the Trump Team to become legendary
if they can get some resolution in 4 years.
