Currently the United Nations assesses the US $3 billion/year, but the total US contribution to the UN is near $18 billion.
which is over 28% of the United Nations 'regular' budget. This is addition to the $35 Billion the US gives other countries
in foreign aid and pay for UN 'Peacekeeping. How much good does the UN actually do? The US also provided another $567,000,000
to NATO, which is about 16% of the NATO budget. We propose the following:
- What Foreign Aid we will provide goes only to countries:
> That have peaceful, freely contested elections
> That have a representative type government
> That support and protect US interests in their country
> That actively pursue and prosecute terrorist groups
- Will demand that until the 10% ceiling rate proposed in 1985 by then Swedish Prime Minister Olaf Palme is adopted,
the US will not pay any outstanding balances to the UN and will hold absolute veto power of ANY policy, appointment, decision,
or proposal or withdraw from the UN. The same rights would accrue to any other nation who also funds more than 10% of the
cost of the United Nations
- Basically, charity begins at home with the thought that money doesn't buy friendship.
- Each cycle of the federal budget we will reset the aid to each country based on the previous year and the forecast
for the coming year. There is no guaranteed 'legacy' budget aid number for any country. Each year begins at a zero base
for each country, with an overall cap of foreign aid at <0.1% of GDP
- Any aid will be very targeted with uses approved and supervised by US. No dictator slush funds.
- Aid will basically be based on the "golden rule"-treat other countries the way we would want to be treated.
If they don't reciprocate, they get no money!
